Abstract
The family Podocinidae Berlese includes a small group of free-living mites, which mostly occur in soil litter and organic materials. The family embraces two genera: Podocinum Berlese, with thirty-one described species; and Podocinella Evans & Hyatt, with five known species. Most records of species of this family are from Asia, only six species have been reported from North and South America. We report a series of female specimens of the genus Podocinum recovered from the samples of Cuban soil litter mites, which were identified as Podocinum jamaicense Evans & Hyatt, 1958. This species was originally described based on a single female specimen from damp woody soil in Jamaica. It has since been recorded in the USA (Florida), Mexico (Oaxaca, San Luis Potosi), and Peru. We present the first record of this species in Cuba. The present research was supported by the cooperative agreement No. FEWZ-2021–0004 from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
